Monmouth Fish & Game is proud to serve as a host location for Project Appleseed events.

Project Appleseed is a nationwide program that combines traditional rifle marksmanship instruction with stories about America’s early history and the events surrounding April 19, 1775.

Appleseed events provide participants with intensive instruction in the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship. Participants learn and practice skills including safe rifle handling, proper shooting positions, sling use, sight alignment and sight picture, breathing and trigger control, natural point of aim, and techniques for developing greater accuracy and consistency.

One of the strengths of an Appleseed event is its focus on fundamentals. Rather than simply firing rounds downrange, participants learn why particular techniques work and how to recognize and correct problems with their shooting.

The instruction is designed to accommodate a broad range of experience levels. Newer shooters can develop a strong foundation, while experienced shooters often discover techniques that help refine skills they’ve already developed.

But Project Appleseed is about more than marksmanship.

Throughout the event, instructors share stories about the people, choices, and events surrounding the opening days of the American Revolution. These historical presentations provide context for the events at Lexington and Concord and encourage participants to learn more about the nation’s founding and the responsibilities of citizenship.
